Dr. Stavros K. Filippidis is a teacher of Informatics and Mathematics and a postdoctoral researcher. His interests include artificial intelligence and machine learning, contemporary educational technologies, free software development, Byzantine ecclesiastical music, and filmmaking.
He studied at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece, where he earned a PhD in Informatics in 2008, an MSc in Medical Informatics in 2002, and four-year bachelor’s degrees in Informatics in 2000 and Mathematics in 1996.
He taught in higher education as an adjunct lecturer at the School of Informatics, AUTh, in 2010 and at the School of Philosophy and Education, AUTh, in 2009. He also taught as a laboratory associate at the Department of Informatics of the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki from 2003 to 2008 and at the Department of Logistics of the same institution from 2005 to 2006. From 2006 to 2009, he taught in the latter department as a secondary education teacher seconded from the public school system.
He holds a permanent teaching position in the Greek public education system, with qualifications in both Mathematics and Informatics, and has served in it since 2001. He currently serves as an Education Advisor for Informatics, based at the Directorate of Secondary Education of Pieria. His area of responsibility extends to the Directorates of Secondary and Primary Education of Pieria, as well as to part of the corresponding Directorates of Eastern Thessaloniki. He also serves as Deputy Quality Supervisor for Secondary Education in Pieria, deputising for the Quality Supervisor when the latter is absent, unable to perform their duties, or when the post is vacant. Since September 2023, he has been conducting postdoctoral research at the School of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), entitled “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Education”.
He is married and has three children.
